Seamus completes third Ironman

Ironman Cork took place in Youghal on Sunday last with nine members of the Thurles-based Collins Cycle Centre Triathlon Club taking part, including our own Seamus Duggan.

There were around 2,000 athletes competing in total with 600-odd competing in the full race and the remainder in the half race. The full race consists of a 3.8km swim, a 180km cycle and concludes with a marathon (42.2km).

Due to adverse weather conditions, the swim was shortened as a precautionary measure. Seamus, in his second appearance in the event, completed the course in just under ten hours and finished inside the top 70.

Seamus has previously competed in the full race in Frankfurt while also competing in a number of Half Ironman races. Well done to you on a magnificent achievement.

Tragically, two men, Ivan Chittenden from Toronto and Brendan Wall from Co Meath, both lost their lives having gotten into difficulty in the water. Seamus and all his colleagues in Thurles express their deepest sympathies to the families of the bereaved.
