Celebrating Heritage Week 2023 in Duharra

Over 50 primary-age children attended a ‘Big Dig’ that was hosted by Arra Historical and Archaeological Society and sponsored by Tipperary County Council in Newtown on Saturday, August 12.

The children got to see what it would be like to be an archaeologist, using trowels to uncover various artefacts. It was facilitated by The Irish School of Archaeology.

The Society had a second event on Saturday, August 19, at the Graves of the Leinstermen where archaeologist Dr Siobhan Geraghty talked about the natural landscape including the flora and fauna around the area. She talked about the native plants and wildlife in the vicinity, and the folklore associated with some them.

Dr Geraghty touched on the history, folklore and archaeology of this enigmatic site.
