Tipperary Women's Soccer League Review

By Gary Culbert

Following big wins on home soil, both BT Harps and Birdhill booked semi-final ties against the Division 1 champions and runners-up respectively.

Birdhill's passage to tonight's semi-final against District of Castletroy never really looked in doubt, the Division 2 champions easily seeing off Newport Town in Birdhill.

Ailín Rochford got Newport's only goal of the game, but it was not enough to overcome the free-scoring league champions. Emma Coleman and Emma Flanagan each netted twice for the hosts, whilst Clare Coffey rubber stamped the heavy victory with a goal of her own.

Newport's run in the cup has come to an end, but their season is not over yet; they go straight into the Shield final, which will be played on Wednesday, 30th August.

District of Castletroy got a walkover from Shinrone in their quarter final and will go into tonight's game as favourites, but not by much; Birdhill have lit up Division 2, scoring at will along the way. Both these sides like to pile forward on the attack, so it's fair to say we are in for a high scoring game in Limerick tonight.

On the other side of the draw, Division 1 side BT Harps predictably overcame Division 2 side Borrisokane 8-0. Erin Bourke and Ellen Delaney were the best for BT Harps in an emphatic win which will give Harps great hope heading into yet another meeting with the Division 1 champions Ballymackey who have had their number, but a cup semi-final would be the perfect time to turn the tables.

Borrisokane drop out of the Cup and will instead contest the Shield final with Newport Town next week.
