Sinn Féin to run North Tipp candidate

Sinn Féin is to run a general election candidate in North Tipperary as well as in the south, following the recently-announced constituency changes that will see the county return to six-TD representation.

The party's representative for the Nenagh area Damian O Donoghue this week welcomed the redrawing of the Tipperary constituency boundary.

"I welcome the return of areas of Tipperary that were in the Limerick constituency," he stated. "I was not in favour of those areas being moved into Limerick when it happened so I am glad to see them back.

"The North/South divide makes sense as the population of the county has now exceeded the amount of people that five TDs should represent.''

Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne said: "One thing that we in Tipperary Sinn Féin are proud of is that we have been working incredibly hard across Tipperary – both North and South. This work will continue.

"Sinn Féin in Tipperary will now proceed to identify a general election candidate for North Tipperary. It is an exciting but important time. The work we have already done to date for the constituents of North Tipperary has put us in a good position to field a candidate who people can be confident will have their interests front and centre."
