Members of the Roscrea Trail Blazers on the last and final leg of the Grand Canal Greenway from Pollagh to Shannon Harbour.

Get walking with Roscrea Trail Blazers

With the evenings starting to shorten we will be cutting back on some of our more popular walks. On Thursday night last we were at Heywood Gardens outside Abbeyleix. A fantastic autumn evening saw a large group being put through their paces by local woman Majella Clifford. Majella knows the area intimately and gave a great account of the local history. Well done to everyone that made the effort.

Our walk this Thursday night, September 14, we are at the Portumna Forest Park Loop. A fantastic woodland walk and one not to be missed. Distance: 8k, grade: moderate; time: 2 hours. Meeting at the Portumna Forest Trail Head at Portumna Golf Club carpark at 7pm. Our last Greenway walk was the final section of the Grand Canal Greenway on Sunday last from Pollagh Village to Shannon Harbour a distance of 20km. A sun filled day saw the group completing the leg in just under 5 hours with breaks. Thanks to Sandra Coady and Gemma Collins for their help with the day, the staff at McIntyre’s pub for feeding the large group and to Rynagh Carnon for entertaining the group with tea/coffee along the route. If you would like to join the group on any of their future walks you can contact Cathal on 086 3399193 with an expression of interest.
