Barn owl talk in Thurles

Birdwatch Ireland is one of the foremost conservation organisations in the country.

Their expertise on many topics relating to the environment is greatly respected. The Tipperary Branch of Birdwatch Ireland will host a talk in Cabragh Wetlands Centre on Tuesday, September 19, at 7.30pm. The subject of the powerpoint will be the iconic barn owl. This creature is on the red list of endangered species but, with valiant efforts by many volunteers, the barn owl numbers are increasing year on year.

The talk will cover how this bird of prey has adapted to become a very efficient vermin control predator; the habitat it needs in order to survive and the conservation measures that seem to be paying off. It will also address the threats they face and how small changes in how we manage the environment where they live can make a big difference.

The event is free and non-members are especially welcome. There will be a raffle on the night. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Venue: Cabragh Wetlands Centre, Thurles. Postcode: E41T266.
