Day out for the dogs in Birdhill

Perfect setting for enjoyable afternoon

They came in all sizes from the cuddly little pets, to the furry coated and the larger and more daunting breeds to parade through the judging ring at the annual Dog Show at Birdhill led by their proud and caring owners.

Good weather favoured the outdoor event and the family pets and the owners found the setting just perfect for an enjoyable afternoon.

Breeders and owners came from a wide spread of the region with their entries to compete for the prizes and the honours, which were handed out in the seven classes after which it was time to select the winners for the top accolades of the day from the class winners.

The overall Best in Show rosette went to ‘Jessie’, the winner of the class for the Best Puppy (0-1 Year): walked by Alison McKeogh and the accolade for the Best-Dressed Dog was presented to Rachel Martin for ‘Misty’ the earlier winner of the class for the Best Rescue type entry.

First into the judging ring on the day were the entries for the Best Small Dog which was won by ‘Ruby’ walked by Gerard Maughan.

Next to come under the eye of the judge were the entries for the Best Medium-Sized Dog, from which ‘Lola’, walked by Grace Whelton, was the chosen winner.

Lara Butler walked the winning entry in the class for the Best Golden Oldie (8+) the honours going to her ‘Perri’, while David and Isobel Healy presented their entry in the class for the Best-Groomed Dog, ‘Chase’ to take home the top award in the class for their well cared for dog.

There was also a class for the dog with the waggiest tail in which the honours went to Molly Coffey for her ‘Ernie’ and then it was time to consider who was the Best Junior Handler of the show.

This honour was scooped up by Ava May Maughan, who impressed the judges with her handling of the presentation of ‘Ruby’ in the judging ring.
