A whopping €5,916 for the North Tipp Hospice.

Lake drive raises almost €6,000

Event was supported and sponsored by Carey Glass International

Our very own club member John Joe Lewis was the hero of the day as the recent Nenagh Classic Car Club’s annual charity fundraising event, which he organised, turned out to be a massive success, raising a whopping €5,916 for The North Tipperary Hospice.

The club has held a number of fundraising events over the last number of years but this year club member John Joe Lewis wanted to go an extra mile and make this year’s event bigger and better than previous years, and he certainly achieved his goal on Sunday week last. John Joe has been extremely passionate about this event and our chosen organisation – the North Tipperary Hospice. John Joe put together a subcommittee, which he led in putting this event together, consisting of Declan Lee, Brendan Murphy, Richard Carey, Jonathan Travers, Denis Ryan, PJ Hennessy, Thos Delahunty and Paddy Heffernan from the North Tipperary Hospice.

This year’s event was supported and sponsored by Carey Glass International. Carey Glass have been instrumental in helping and supporting the car club to host this event over the past number of years and for this year’s Loughderg100 event they went above and beyond to ensure it was a success.

Over 90 classic, vintage and performance cars registered for the Loughderg100 event on Sunday last. Crowds of people swarmed in to see the fantastic display of cars on show in front of the Carey Glass building before the cars departed for the scenic drive around Loughderg at 1pm.

It was absolutely magnificent to see the line of cars pull out onto the open road as we departed safely along the scenic drive along Loughderg, with the sun shining down on us it made for a most pleasant drive. It was simply magical to see the sun reflecting off the sparkling chrome-work on a lovely MGB roadster as I glanced in my rear view mirror, and as we drove through a tunnel of trees out in the countryside above Portroe, I could hear the powerful exhaust note from the beautiful E-type Jaguar that was driving at a leisurely pace in front of me along the route.

As a car enthusiast, this is what it’s all about and Loughderg100 was a car enthusiast's dream event, driving and enjoying these beautiful cars but also soaking up the atmosphere and freedom of the countryside and enjoying the magnificent scenery, all whilst raising money for an extremely worthy cause.

We would like to thank everyone that took part and supported the event; we would also like to thank our sponsors Carey Glass, who have been extremely supportive of this annual event; Hugh Flannery, An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, Tiernan – Nissan Main Dealers, OCD Valeting, and all the volunteers who helped make this event the success that it was.

Again, we salute John Joe Lewis for all his drive, ambition and hard work in making Loughderg100 a massive success – we hope to see everyone back again in 2024.
