Redundancies have taken place and the new ownership will come into effect on September 29.

Arrabawn liquid milk sale deal approved

Co-op will cease liquid milk distribution over the coming weeks

The Nenagh based dairy co-op Arrabawn has confirmed that its decision, taken in August 2022 to sell its liquid milk van sales business to Aurivo has been approved by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), following a detailed analysis of the proposed transfer.

As a result, Arrabawn will cease liquid milk distribution over the coming weeks and the van sales business will transfer with immediate effect thereafter to Aurivo.

Arrabawn in a statement said: “All van sales employees will transfer to Aurivo and we wish them continued success. A number of staff affected by the change will transfer to other roles in the wider Arrabawn business over the coming weeks.”

It said all remaining staff in production and administration in its liquid milk section will leave the business on agreed redundancy terms over a phased basis. “We are extremely grateful to them for their continued hard work, flexibility and patience, in particular over the past 12 months.”

Aurivo Co-operative said it was pleased to confirm that its offer to acquire Arrabawn’s branded liquid milk, butter and van sales business has been approved by the CCPC.

It said in a statement: “The positive move is in line with Aurivo’s strategy to invest in liquid milk. The well-established Dawn and Arrabawn milk brands will be added to Aurivo’s portfolio of award-winning products, including Connacht Gold, Donegal Creameries and Organic for Us.”

The new ownership will come into effect on September 29.

Aurivo CEO Donal Tierney said the deal amounted to a fantastic addition to Aurivo’s high quality milk and butter brand portfolio. “Aurivo has a long track record in liquid milk investment and we look forward to working with our new team members continuing to deliver a fantastic service to our valued new and existing customers. This purchase further solidifies our commitment to the liquid milk market in Ireland and to serving our customers with a wide range of branded and private label milk and butter products.”
