LED there be light!
Tipperary Co Council has responsibility for the management and maintenance of more than 17,800 lights in the county, and public lighting is the biggest user of energy in the council's overall energy usage.
The council is participating in the national Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project (PLEEP), which will see 11,600 lights upgraded to LED (light-emitting diode) across Tipperary. This project is being rolled out on a regional basis with Tipperary Co Council included in the Eastern region. Kilkenny Co Council is leading the project in the region and the Tipperary local authority continues to engage with the lead partner to ensure successful delivery of the project.
The contractor appointed to carry out this work has commenced surveying all existing streetlights.
