Successful networking event for Tipperary Tourism

Stakeholders meet in Glen of Aherlow

Tipperary Tourism was incredibly lucky to enjoy a warm autumn evening in the Glen of Aherlow recently. After a very successful networking event earlier this summer ‘in the bog’, this month’s venue was a meet-up in the charming Aherlow House Hotel, with breath-taking views of the Galtee Mountains, on what was a clear and balmy evening. After a selection of home-baked goodies in the hotel’s cosy tea parlour, the majority of the group set off along what was once part of the original Bianconi road system. Local guide, Jimmy Barry, enthralled the group with snippets of information on the history and geography of the area.

On reaching the Christ the King, the group were rewarded with crystal clear views of the Galtee Mountains. What a gem right on our doorstep in Tipperary. This corner of the county is wealthy with many looped walks of various lengths and for all abilities. The signage is first class, and the enjoyable experience will be enticing many in the group to re-visit the area again soon.

Above all, the event was a great success with regards to connecting people from within Tipperary Tourism’s membership. Those attending the walk included people from the hotels sector, self-catering, community tourism, activities, tour operator, chauffeur drive, to name a few from various corners of the county. The format ensured everyone had the opportunity to speak at length with each other, and it is with 100% certainty that the swapping of business cards, brochures and contact details will be the start of business relations going forward.

Tipperary Tourism Chairperson John G O’ Dwyer thanked Glen of Aherlow Fáilte Society for hosting the group. He commented: “There is no denying that the hospitality in the Glen of Aherlow is first class. With various new schemes available including the recently launched Just Transition Fund in the Thurles and Carrick-on-Suir Municipal Districts, and other opportunities coming in the near future, collaboration and connecting with others in the industry, to learn about challenges and how to work together is invaluable. This evening definitely helped with this.”

This networking event was one of a series of opportunities organised by Tipperary Tourism, which was established by Tipperary County Council, and is committed to the marketing and development of the tourism potential in Tipperary. Membership is available to approved tourism operators in the county, and is open year-round, with new members welcome at any time; email tourism@tipperarycoco.ie for details.
