Junior 'C' Hurling Championship

The semi-finals of the North Junior 'C' Hurling Championship took place last Saturday.

Kilruane MacDonaghs had a hard earned 3-12 to 2-14 win away to Ballina. MacDonaghs enjoyed a 1-6 to 0-5 half time lead with Eoin O'Meara finding the back of the net for the magpies. Kilruane had a great start to the second half with an early Pat Williams goal to stretch their lead at the time to eight points. Ballina responded with a goal on the fortieth minute to give themselves a fighting chance. Ballina had the deficit back to three points with ten minutes left on the clock when Kilruane registered their third goal of the game. Kilruane held a five point lead going into injury time with a gallant Ballina scoring 1-1 late on to cut the deficient but Kilruane held out for victory.

Silvermines had a 1-20 to 2-9 victory over Kiladangan in the second Semi Final in Dolla.

In what was a close game throughout, the sides were level 2-3 to 0-9 at half time with Billy McGrath and Paraic Kelly the Kiladangan goal scorers. There was still nothing separating the sides with ten minutes to go with the sides level 2-8 to 0-14. However, Silvermines finished the game strongly, outscoring Kiladangan 1-6 to 0-1 late in the game to secure victory with Micheál Ryan Prendiville finding the back of the net for the 'Mines.

The Final will take place this Saturday 28th October at 3.00pm in Toomevara with Brendan Ryan officiating. The teams have already met in the group stages where Silvermines were victorious 1-13 to 0-13.

Under 21 Format Change

Due to the Senior & Premier Intermediate County Hurling Finals going to replays, the North U21 'A' & 'B' Hurling Championship format was revised last Thursday night at a CCC meeting with the clubs and will now take place on a straight knock out format.

The North Under 21 'A' Hurling Championship commenced last Sunday with Ballina having 2-18 to 0-12 quarter final win over Borris-Ileigh.

Ballina held a 0-13 to 0-8 half time lead with Borris cutting the deficit back to two points early in the second half. However, back to back goals for Ballina in the 53rd & 56th minutes secured the victory.

The second quarter final will take place this Sunday 29th October at 1.00pm in Borrisoleigh where Toomevara will take on old rivals Nenagh Eire Og. The winner will face Ballina in the semi-final on Sunday 5th November with the second semi-final also taking place on Sunday 5th when Roscrea face Kiladangan.

The North Under 21 'B' Hurling Championship commenced last Sunday with Silvermines having a comfortable 3-25 to 1-10 quarter final victory over Ballinahinch/Templederry. Silvermines were dominant throughout and held a 2-13 to 0-7 half time lead.

The Preliminary quarter final game due to take place last Sunday between Kilruane MacDonaghs and Moneygall/Clonakenny was postpone due to an unplayable pitch. This has been refixed to take place this Sunday 29th October at 12 noon in Borrisokane. The winner will face Newport at the quarter final stage.

Two more quarter finals will take place this weekend. On Saturday, Borrisokane face Lorrha Rovers at 4.00pm in Borrisokane whilst on Monday 30th - Burgess will host Portroe at 2.30pm in Kilcolman.

North Board GAA Primary School Quiz

The 2023 North GAA Primary School Quiz will be held on Sunday, November 12th in Kiladangan GAA Complex, Puckane, commencing at 6.00pm. The Quiz will cover 2023 season of GAA, LGFA, Camogie, Handball & Rounders.
