Nenagh CBS chase first Dean Ryan Cup

Nenagh CBS will aim to join the roll of honour in the prestigious Dean Ryan Cup when they take on St Flannan’s College, Ennis in the Munster Post Primary Schools Junior ‘A’ Hurling final in Kilmallock this Friday at 1.00pm.

Thurles CBS lead the roll of honour for the former under 16 ½ competition which was changed to under 17 this year, with fourteen titles with and they will be joined on that number by St Flannan’s should the Clare school win the competition for the second time in three years.

Tipperary CBS, Cashel CBS, and Our Lady’s Secondary School Templemore have all gotten their hands on the Dean Ryan Cup which had been played for since 1936.

Nenagh progressed to the final with a 1-20 to 1-13 quarter-final win over Rice College of Ennis, while in the same round, St Flannan’s defeated defending champions Ardscoil Ris from Limerick.

In the semi-finals, Nenagh accounted for De La Salle of Waterford 3-8 to 1-12 while St Flannan’s got the better of Midleton CBS, 1-17 to 0-14.
