Light Up Nenagh this Christmas
Month-long extravaganza of live festive entertainment
AS part of Tipperary County Council’s ongoing initiative to promote Nenagh town as a go-to Christmas destination, Nenagh Live, Nenagh 800, Nenagh Tourist Office, Nenagh Arts Centre, Nenagh Chamber of Commerce, Tipperary County Council, Christmas Tractors and Spain AV present a month-long extravaganza of live Christmas entertainment.
Beginning with Light Up Nenagh 2023 on Sunday, November 26, the magic of Christmas will descend upon the town when the Christmas lights will be officially switched on. Hosted by Tipp FM’s Fran Curry, the entertainment will suit all ages and musical tastes.
Light up Nenagh 2023 will begin at 3pm with JP’s Gigantic Video Disco, Christmas Karaoke, Santa Claus, the Grinch and Paw Patrol amongst others making a festive appearance. A symphony of characters, costumes, musicians, schools and choirs will be performing live on the main stage.
With this in mind, this year’s event will feature our largest production yet with an outdoor stage and a gigantic LED Video screen.
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.30pm, followed by lighting the Tree of Remembrance at Nenagh Courthouse at 6.15pm. Please note on Sunday, November 26, Pearse Street from the Market Cross to the junction with Kickham St will be closed to traffic from 7.30am - 9.30pm.
CHRISTMAS AT THE CASTLE
Beginning on December 15, we are delighted to present ‘Christmas at the Castle’, Nenagh’s first two-day Christmas festival and market. Complete with family entertainment, stall holders and local vendors this will be a festive experience for all the family taking you on a wonderous walking trail through the illuminated grounds of Nenagh Castle. Here you will experience a wonderful mixture of light displays, projections, interactive elements and music. Entry is free and is suitable for all ages - a wonderful Christmas experience ideal for family and friends near and far. The Christmas Experience at Nenagh Castle and Gardens promises to be one of Ireland’s most loved and sought after Christmas events.

You better watch out as Santa Claus, Mrs Claus and the Grinch will appear in the magical setting of Nenagh Castle on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday 17. Numbers are limited and pre-booking is essential. Admission is €15 per child including present; parents are free. Light Up Nenagh and Christmas at the Castle Director of Events David Spain said: “Growing up behind the shop counter at Sounds of Music, I have wonderful memories of the town at Christmas! Years later we are in the privileged position of working with Tipperary County Council to create new and exciting events in Nenagh’s historical and cultural quarter.

Nenagh town will host some amazing Christmas events this year. The Nenagh Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary's Church of Ireland, Nenagh, runs from December 13 to 17. The Ormond Octaves annual Christmas Concert returns to St Mary of the Rosary on Friday, December 15, while Nenagh Arts Centre presents the children’s panto ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’ on Saturday, December 16, at 2pm. Tickets are priced: €10/35 and are available from the box office.
Receiving national acclaim in recent years, Nenagh Christmas Tractors will once again take place on Saturday, December 23, at 6pm. This annual all-day event of Christmas fun will include a Christmas Market, Christmas Funfair and the return of the Nenagh’s own Polar Express. To prepare every local household for Christmas Day, Santa’s Post Box will once again be situated outside Edel’s Boutique on Kenyon Street from Friday, December 1 to Wednesday, December 20. A stamped self-addressed envelope should be included with the child’s letter, and they will receive a reply from Santa.
