Marking National Safeguarding Day

To mark Friday, November 10, as National Safeguarding Day, Cora Ryan, Social Worker on the Safeguarding and Protection Team of HSE Mid-West, visited Age Friendly Roscrea on Tuesday last to discuss various aspects of safeguarding ourselves against the many forms of abuse.

These can take many forms - physical, psychological, sexual, financial, and neglect. Planning ahead for your care needs, financial needs and living arrangements all help to avoid opportunities for abuse down the line. It is never too early to have a conversation with your partner, family, carer or close friends about your wishes for the future. These can be difficult conversations, but it helps to avoid confusion and conflict to plan ahead. There are several organisations who can give guidance or support if you need it – Citizen’s Advice, Sage Advocacy (over 65 years), your solicitor, Irish Hospice (Think Ahead booklet) and the Decision Support Service. If you need any further information on any of these services, please feel free to contact us at Age Friendly Roscrea 089 468 2164 or 0505 22550.

If you or another adult is experiencing or at risk of abuse, please tell someone and contact the Safeguarding Team at 067 46725 or 067 46752. Cora and her team are there to help and support you through any difficult situation.
