354 household waste inspections in Tipp

Tipperary Co Council has surveyed 354 households to check for evidence of licensed waste disposal.

The council's October meeting was informed that 305 of these households had a licensed means of disposal, a percentage of 86% compliance; the national average is approximately 75%.

Commenting on these figures, Director of Services Eamon Lonergan said household waste inspections are now an important part of the council's environmental enforcement work. The scheme is as much about creating awareness as it is enforcement, he added.
