Busy times for young filmmaker from Nenagh
Busy times abound for young Nenagh filmmaker Jake Mitchell, who has been using his drone to capture aerial photographs and videos for local businesses.
Jake (17) was contacted earlier this year by Nenagh Credit Union regarding a promotional video. “I’ve covered many areas around Nenagh, including Silvermines, Newtown, Dolla, Garrykennedy, Dromineer, Nenagh, Toomevara and Ballycommon,” he explained.
“Nenagh Credit Union was a pleasure to work with. They will begin uploading these videos to their Facebook page shortly.”
Jake said he had been doing similar work with local auctioneer Eoin Dillon. “I’ve travelled with Eoin to various properties around Tipperary and captured stunning aerial images of his various properties. In the new year, I'll be doing the same with Michael Gilmartin.
“Once the Christmas lights have been turned on in Nenagh, I plan to document the town from an aerial perspective. I'll then be moving on from drone photography to focus more on filmmaking and business. I have many projects planned for next year, including a submission to Ireland's young filmmaker of the year awards 2024.”
Jake revealed that he is currently working on a camping/survival documentary. “The results have been simply fantastic so far,” he said.
“I’ve received numerous emails and messages from filmmakers around the county, wishing me good luck and offering to get involved. This was great to see.”
His last film, ‘Keeper Hill's Surrounding Area’ was shortlisted for the 2023 film of the year award at the Fresh International Film Festival. The documentary covered many topics, including illegal dumping.
Jake got into filmmaking when peregrine falcons came to Nenagh during the pandemic. He wanted to document the rare presence of these birds in the town. He recently featured in the Tipperary Star in an article where he imparted advice on using drones.
Jake said he would be posting a teaser later this year regarding his next project. You can see Jake's work on his You Tube channel ‘The Jake Show’.
