New candidate for 2024 Tipp Local Elections

The Tipperary Branch of the Social Democrats have formally selected Alan Moynihan to contest the 2024 Local Elections in the Cahir electoral area. Alan lives in Kilcaroon and works as an emergency call taker in An Garda Síochána.

His candidacy brings years of volunteerism and advocacy in mental health and disability. Most recently, Alan walked the length of Tipperary to raise funds for communication boards for local playgrounds and schools. These boards help children and adults with additional needs to communicate and connect.

Speaking after his selection, Alan said: “I am honoured to have been selected to represent the Social Democrats in Cahir and be the party’s first candidate in Tipperary.

“It’s clear that the desire for change in Ireland is huge and I believe the Social Democrats represent that change. We are not an old party, defined by old politics and old loyalties.

“The Social Democrats offer a fresh take on the challenges facing our country - one which is firmly grounded in the belief that Ireland can and should be a fairer and more sustainable place to live.

“Old problems won't be solved with old solutions. We need new voices and new ideas. “I look forward to offering a progressive perspective on the issues facing our area and engaging further with the local community in the run up to the local elections.

“I will be calling to homes in the area in the coming weeks but in the meantime I can be reached at alan.moynihan@socialdemocrats.ie.”
