Munster Junior Cup

Newport Town crashed out of the Munster Junior Cup when they fell 2-1 to fellow Tipperary hopefuls Clonmel Celtic in the fourth round in Clonmel on Sunday.

Elliot Slattery put Newport ahead after twenty-five minutes with a well-struck free kick from 25 yards after a foul on Christy Doyle.

However, with Newport still congratulating themselves, Clonmel were back on level terms direct from the kick off when Gary Kelly scored a spot kick after a challenge by Christy O’Connor.

Darren Collins went within a whisker of restoring Newport’s lead but the ball struck the crossbar on its way to safety. Ten minutes before the break, Keenan Kerton’s shot took a wicked deflection to put the ball out of reach of goalkeeper Seamus O’Regan and give the home side the lead.

Newport had a number of chances to level the tie in the second half but luck was not on their side.

Cillian O’Shea and Daniel Ryan missed chances that on another day would have finished while near full time Doyle was just over the top with a headed effort.

Newport Town: Seamus O'Regan; Eoin Looney, Pa Murtagh, Christy O'Connor, Drew McLean, Peter O'Sullivan, Cillian O'Shea, Elliot Slattery, Christy Doyle, Jay Ryan, Darren Collins. Subs: Dan Egan, Daniel Ryan, Brian O'Sullivan, Luke Ryan, Killian O'Malley, Diarmuid O'Riordan.

Division 1B League

Nenagh AFC ‘B’ turned in a superb performance to take the spoils in their league game with Janesboro on Sunday.

Nenagh took the lead midway through the first half when a great team move finished with the ball at Paddy Alonso's feet who calmy slotted the ball home. Cillian Scully doubled the home side's lead after a great counter attack, rounding the onrushing keeper to finish in to an empty net.

Nenagh added a third goal just after the restart when Kieran O'Brien curled home a fantastic effort from distance. Scully added his second goal of the game finishing to the top corner and Nenagh completed the scoring when Kalum Darcy played a great through ball to Alex Gardas who squared the ball back for Scully to tap it home for his hat-trick.

Youths

Nenagh AFC also picked up three league points when they defeated Summerville Rovers 4-2. Daniel Connolly (2), Brian Tracey and Ryan Clifford accounted for the winning scores.
