Ormond enter crucial phase in promotion chase

Just like that, we have hit the third of the way mark in the All-Ireland League season and things have gone superbly well for Nenagh Ormond. Six wins from six, and 27 points out of a possible thirty, sees them five points clear at the top of division 2A, looking down on everyone else.

The crucial aspect now is not to lose momentum, particularly approaching the half-way mark in the season and the four-week gap either side of the New Year. The forthcoming set of three games could go a long way to Nenagh Ormond achieving their goal of promotion, starting away to bottom side Malone next Saturday (2.30pm). The Belfast side were relegated from division 1B last year and have found the going tough, winning just one of their six games so far, but that came in their last home game against Navan, so Nenagh won’t want to take anything for granted.

However, that shouldn’t be an issue as long trips to Ulster always demand the greatest focus and only recently, Nenagh went to Ballymena and came away with a crucial win.

After the Malone game comes a home clash with Greystones on December 9th, followed by the first of the Tipperary derby’s, away to Cashel on December 16, and with the return game coming on January 13th, the outcome of both games could go a long way to determining who finishes top of the table and with it the one automatic promotion spot from division 2A with the teams that finish in second to fourth places going into a promotion playoff with the second bottom team from division 1B.
