Snooker star Murphy enthrals the locals at New Institute

It proved to be a great night for the New Institute Snooker Club last Wednesday as leading professional Shaun Murphy enthralled the large crowd at the Friar Street venue for a night of fun.

With MC Aonghus McAnally showing his many years of showbiz hosting skills, and Shaun Murphy with his magical potting and break building abilities on the table, it was a hugely successful occasion.

The club was packed with spectators and dignitaries with a fantastic and respectful atmosphere shown throughout.

Taking on a number of club members in one frame shootouts, Shaun Murphy didn’t have things quite his own way necessarily with a few close matches, but in the last couple of frames Shaun attempted two maximum 147 breaks in a row and was so close making a break of 104 in the first attempt missing the last red followed by a break of 129 missing a tricky blue to the centre pocket. A great finish to the exhibition.

Aonghus and Shaun were very generous with their time before the start and mingled with everyone to chat with and take photos. They also made a great team as a musical duo with Shaun playing piano and Aengus playing guitar in Andy Flynn’s Bar after the event. A talented duo and a night to remember for the club.

Thanks to all who supported on the night and provided raffle prizes, the club committee for making the event the success that it was, and to all the club members and the public who bought tickets for the event, and of course to Joe Mulqueen and Andy Flynn’s bar for their continued support.
