Nenagh swimmers in UL Arena Championship

A TOTAL of 17 athletes attended the Swim Ireland Munster Short Course Championship in November at UL Arena.

There were 82 entries. From our Senior Squad, these included: Mark Griffin, Conor Mullen, Bartosz Urbanik, Oisín Kelly O’Driscoll, Kevin Reddy, Sarah Gleeson, Aiveen O’Brien, Natasha Filipczyk, Lauren Duggan, Ellen O’Meara, Rachel Quigley, Ronan Fitzpatrick, Thomas Ryan, Amy Rose Goldswain, Mathew Milaszewicz, Maedbh Kennedy and Kseniya Nita.

Our swimmers made it into 14 finals. We entered six relays. Many of our swimmers showed real improvement and achieving plenty of personnel bests. This was an open competition (no age groups). Four of our swims entered were in the top 10 and 20 of the swims were in the Top 30.

Rachel Quigley (17) succeeded in reaching many finals over the weekend. She finished in seventh place in the final of the 200 Breaststroke, up three positions from the prelims. She went into the 100 Breaststroke final in 12th position and held onto that place in the final. A fantastic gala for Rachel.

Kseniya Nita (17), finished 10th overall in the 200m Free final. Her 400 IM in 5.38.96 achieved a fifth place overall for Kseniya. Another solid performance by Kseniya and she will represent NNSC the Winter National SC Championships in the 200 Fly.

Both Rachel and Kseniya achieved the same time in the 50 Fly coming in at exactly 32.86secs.

Mathew Milaszewicz (14), had some fantastic swims – dropping 23secs off his 400m free and securing a place in the final for 200m Fly. Sarah Gleeson (15) qualified for the 200m IM final as did Bartek Urbanik (17), who qualified for the 200m Breaststroke.

A great performance by everyone, and see ye soon for the next Gala - Gerry Ryan in UL on the 19th January.
