No seatbelt numbers 'too high'
Concern has been expressed over the number of drivers and passengers not wearing their seatbelt.
The December meeting of Tipperary Joint Policing Committee heard of 262 offences of this kind in the division this year. This represented a 4% decrease on the same period last year.
But the number is still "too high", Chief Supt Superintendent Colm O'Sullivan commented. "Everyone should be wearing their seatbelts," he said, adding that the chance of surviving death or serious injury in a crash is significantly reduced without the protection of a seatbelt.
