Almost €19,000 presented to worthy causes after swim at Youghal Quay
The 33rd annual Youghal Quay Christmas Swim presentation of funds took place at Reidy’s of Newtown on Saturday night last. Beneficiaries this year are North Tipperary Hospice, Nenagh Special Summer Camp and Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club Search and Recovery. The total raised was €18,630. Each of the beneficiaries received the sum of €6,210. The cheque for the hospice was presented to Paddy Heffernan by Christy Manning. The cheque for Nenagh Special Summer Camp was presented to Christine Quinn by Marion Philpot and the cheque for Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club Search and Recovery was presented by Rita Quinn to Tom Shaw.
Each of the recipients expressed their thanks to the organisers, swimmers and collectors for their efforts and generous contribution to each of the beneficiaries.

Tony O’Flaherty welcomed all to the presentation. He extended extended thanks to The Guardian for printing the sponsorship cards free of charge, and the management and staff of AIB Nenagh for banking facilities; to those who provoided and served soup and punch, and to Dermot O’Flaherty and Paul Griffin for providing two vans for changing facilities, and all those who brought refreshments. Thanks also to Nigel Smithwick for providing parking facilities at the Quay and to the stewards who looked after the parking. Thanks to Garda Pat Stanley and Michael Keating for their assistance and all who helped in any way to ensure the success of the event. Thanks also to Bobby Reidy for hosting the presentation. He had a special word of thanks for all those who swam, took sponsorship cards and contributed to the fund in any way. A special mention to the ‘Mermaids’, a group of ladies who took up daily swimming and who took sponsorship cards for the event.
