Premier League

Pike Rovers 3-0 Newport Town

Despite putting up a good battle, Newport Town left empty handed against joint premier league leaders Pike Rovers on Sunday.

Opting to play with the wind in the opening half, Newport were on the back foot for much of it. Solid defending suggested they might get to the break even, but ace striker Shane Clarke poached a goal.

Newport had a great chance at the start of the second half when Daniel Ryan swung a fine cross which was parried away by Pike keeper Gary Neville, only as far as Christy Doyle whose goalward shot was blocked on the line.

Pike’s response was immediate when Dylan Murphy scored a brace within ten minutes to seal the win.

Newport Town: Harry Ryan; Eoin Guilfoyle, Killian O'Malley, Drew McLean, Christy O'Connor; Joe Shanahan, Darren Collins, Elliot Slattery, Christy Doyle, Daniel Ryan, Jay Ryan, Subs: Luke Ryan, Conor Brett, Jamie Kavanagh, James Lynch.

Nenagh AFC 0-3 Regional United

Nenagh AFC recorded another blank in front of goal as they fell to joint league leaders Regional in Brickfields on Sunday.

The joint leaders have an FAI Cup date next weekend and their sharpness proved too much for the home side as they ran in three first half goals through Joey Rush, Eoin Duff, and Kieran O’Connell.

The home side regrouped and proved a tougher hurdle after the break, but the damage was done by then.

Nenagh AFC: Oisin Conacur; Cillian Scully, Kieran Barr, Conor McCormack, Lee Mowatt; Bryan McLoughney, Eamon White, Adam Ryan, Kieran O'Brien, Dan O'Mara; Tom Heffernan.

Lower Leagues

In Division 1B, Ed Brady’s Nenagh AFC ‘B’ side picked up three points in a 3-2 win at Kilfrush. Jonathan Lawlor scored twice for the winners with Eddie Ryan also obliging.

In the same division, Newport Town ‘B’ earned a points following a 1-1 draw with Parkville. Chris Carmody scored for the Tipperary side.

Youths

Nenagh AFC’s under 17’s recorded a good 2-1 win over Shelbourne to leave them just three points off leaders Mungret Regional. Nenagh’s opener saw Rhys Meagher pick out Daniel Connolly who provided a superb finish to the corner. Shelbourne equalised through Michael Duggan, but Nenagh took the points when an excellent pass by Ryan Clifford allowed Connolly space to finish inside the box.
