Ormond's promotion push enters the final straight

By Shane Brophy

Nenagh Ormond enter the final straight of the All-Ireland League season this Saturday as their quest for promotion from Division 2A continues against Old Crescent in Lisatunny at 2.30pm.

The league leaders have five games remaining, one more than their rivals with their re-fixed game at home to Ballymena pencilled in for Saturday week, 9th March.

With a six-point lead over the chasing Cashel and MU Barnhall, Nenagh cannot afford to take their eye off the ball, particularly as they have to play Barnhall in the penultimate round on March 30th.

This Saturday’s game is also a local derby with Old Crescent who will come to Lisatunny very much in the playoff hunt and are in an impressive run of form, including last time out putting fellow playoff chasers Banbridge to the sword in Limerick.

Nenagh won’t need reminding about the quality of Banbridge after the recent reversal suffered at the Down venue so this is not a fixture that can be taken lightly by any stretch.

The Limerick club are firmly positioned in the top 4 currently, with a potential shot at promotion through the playoffs beckoning. They will be just as anxious to consolidate their position as Nenagh will be to re-establish theirs at the head of the league so an exciting battle is in prospect for any fans available to attend on Saturday.
