International success for Sult!

Local musicians to travel to London next month

We are thrilled to announce that local youth trad band Sult! have been awarded the prestigious title of Fiddler of London Trad Group 2024 at the international Fiddler of London Festival.

Adjudicated by the acclaimed musician and composer Michael Rooney, Sult! were chosen for their exceptional talent, creativity, and passion for Irish traditional music. From Tipperary and Limerick, Sult! comprises a talented ensemble including Laoise and Clodagh Kennedy, Cathal Slattery, Caithlin McGrath, Aoife Ní Chonghaile, and Louis Murphy.

Under the adept guidance of musical director, Naomi Corcoran (Morrissey), these young musicians have demonstrated remarkable dedication and skill, earning them this well-deserved victory. They are proud to play a variety of traditional tunes from the region, along with some newly composed tunes, fusing the old with the new in their arrangements.

As winners of the Fiddler of London Trad Group, Sult! will have the honour of travelling to London on April 5 to showcase their talent and accept their prize at a gala concert in the London Irish Centre, representing not only their hometowns of Nenagh, Borrisokane and Limerick, but also the rich musical heritage of the region. There, they will share the stage with Michael Rooney, Dónal O’Connor and Martin Donohoe, to name a few.

The excitement doesn't stop there! Sult!, joined by remarkable musicians John Kennedy and Jack McGrath, have also been named as finalists in the All-Ireland Siansa competition, organised by Gael Linn. The Siansa competition is a revered event that brings together the best young musicians from across the country. It is a testament to the dedication and talent of the group members that they have successfully reached the final, along with only seven other groups.

Seinnfidh siad i gcraobh na hÉireann ar an 14ú Aibreán sa Cheoláras Náisiúnta agus beidh craoladh beo ar fáil ar Raidió na Gaeltachta agus ar na meáin shóisialta.
