Works to enhance amenities in Dromineer

Works to enhance swimming and other water based activities in the lakeside village of Dromineer could start at the end of this summer, councillors were told at the February meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District authority.

The plan is to develop a new water sports activity centre, works on which will involve the demolition of the existing public WC and shower block building to make way for the new development.

The single-storey 12 x 5m centre will provide hot shower, changing and toilet facilities along with secure storage, induction spaces, equipment washdown and orientation points. It will cater for the significant increase in people enjoying outdoor water-based activities such as kayaking, paddle-boarding and open water swimming.

In 2021 Dromineer was among 22 locations around the country to be included in a €19 million water-based activities plan. It is expected the works could take around 10 months to complete.

Nenagh District Administrator Rosemary Joyce said it was hoped to start the works in September.
