St Joseph’s College students on a visit to the Irish Farmers Journal demo farm in Tullamore.

News from St Joseph’s College, Borrisoleigh

On February 29, the Fifth and Sixth Year agricultural science students from St Joseph's College, Borrisoleigh, embarked on an early morning journey and travelled to the Irish Farmers Journal demo farm in Tullamore, County Offaly.

This educational trip was organised in collaboration with Agri Aware, an organisation known for hosting various open days nationwide aimed at both agricultural science students and aspiring young farmers. Arriving at 10 o'clock, we joined over 400 students from other schools. Spread across the expansive farmyard were 12 stands, each offering valuable insights into different aspects of agriculture. Our group began our exploration at stall 9, where we had the opportunity to chat with a knowledgeable Farmers Journal representative. He provided comprehensive information about the variety of career opportunities available in agriculture, as well as the diverse selection of college courses offered not only by agricultural institutions but also by universities and technological colleges.

We are very grateful to the Dairy Discussion Group who funded this trip as part of the Paddy Kennedy Memorial Fund. Paddy Kennedy was a past pupil of St Joseph’s College who died suddenly in 2018.
