New season of Sailing launches on Lough Derg
The new sailing season on Lough Derg began on Easter weekend with 80 sailing keelboats launched between Mountshannon, Garrykennedy and Dromineer.
Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer had their first event of the season and it was an outstanding success both on the water and on the social side. 20 boats took part between the traditional Shannon One Design and the Squib Keelboat.
Race Officer and organiser, David Lefroy, got in eight races over Easter weekend to complete the programme. On the social side there was a full house for the Dinner on the Saturday night and an Easter Egg Hunt on the Sunday for the children.
Cruiser racing commences next weekend in Garrykennedy and Commodore Brendan O’Connor is expecting to build on 2023 - which was a record year.
