New Institute Snooker Club news

Tom Mulqueen Invitational: Crucible Snooker Club from Cork won the Tom Mulqueen 3-Man Team Invitational last weekend.

Crucible featured Irelands top professional player Aaron Hill who recently retained his professional tour card and Michael Judge who will be playing at the World seniors in Goffs along with Rodney Goggins.

It was a close competition throughout with one frame playoffs pipping New Institute ‘B’ for a semi-final place and Leinster select pipping our top team in the semi-final. The format was very popular amongst the players as it created a fantastic team event atmosphere. We also managed to play a separate singles competition during the event. The club would like to thank Brendan O’Donoghue for organising and running the competition to a very high standard and to all the committee members who helped out.

Mike Stanley Beginners Tournament: We also had the final of the Mike Stanley Beginners Tournament last week. It was Aaron Hogan against Adam O’Brien in the final. A very closely contested final with Aaron Hogan coming through 3-2. This is our second beginners group finals, and they are proving very popular with our new members. Thanks to Sean Daly for running and directing the tournament.

Juvenile Coaching: We had our final coaching session of the season last Friday. It has been fantastic to see the participation in our coaching sessions over the last few months. It’s great to see young players having the same enthusiasm for the game that we had as young players. There’s no doubt we had fun every Friday evening for an hour or so. Fantastic talents for the future. Looking forward to next October. Thanks to Nessa Kelly for her fantastic ideas and help throughout the coaching season, and of course to coaches Tony, Brendan, and Patsy.
