Proud victory for Nenagh CTC

Tipperary ETB hold Mini-Olympics

The Learners of Nenagh Community Training Centre (CTC) at John’s Lane emerged victorious from the Tipperary ETB Mini-Olympics held at Bishop Quinlan Park, Borrisoleigh on Wednesday, April 24. The event was hosted Templemore Youthreach.

Competing alongside CTCs from Thurles and Clonmel, as well as Youthreach centres from Roscrea, Templemore and Cappawhite, the 40-strong delegation of Learners and Staff returned to Nenagh as overall champions for Tipperary.

The competitions included five-aside soccer, dodgeball, basketball, track-and-field events as well as other non-sporting but competitive activities such as hairdressing, art and beauty. Alternative non-competitive activities on the day included gaming, board games, and a chill-out room.

Nenagh CTC Manager, Rose Nunan, described the sense of excitement that this amazing victory has created among those who work and study at the John’s Lane campus. She noted: “Morale is already very high at our centre, but this has taken us to a whole new level after the success at the Mini-Olympics. Our learners and staff spent months preparing and training for the various events. This created a wonderful climate of camaraderie, teamwork, fun and inclusivity.”

Congratulating the learners and staff, the Chairperson of the Nenagh CTC Board of Management, Dr Conor Reidy, commented: “This is an outstanding achievement from an outstanding group of people. Events such as the Tipperary ETB Mini-Olympics are all about participation, inclusion, resilience and the sense of a joint effort, and every CTC and Youthreach deserves credit for their enormous efforts on the day. Last Wednesday was Nenagh CTC’s day. Ironically, our centre Manager, Rose, is a highly competitive Limerick native so that probably didn’t hurt our chances! Our team has brought pride to their centre, their families, their town of Nenagh and the surrounding communities. This is our version of the county championship. And Nenagh won. We are bursting with pride for each and every one of them.”

Aside from this thrilling victory, it was later announced that Nenagh CTC will host the 2025 Tipperary ETB Mini-Olympics.
