Major cannabis seizure in Tipp

Gardaí have seized an estimated €65,000 worth of cannabis herb and arrested a man following a joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, Tipperary Divisional Drugs Unit and Revenue.

The operation was carried out on Friday with a search conducted at a property in Thurles.

Over 3kg of cannabis was found at the location along with drug paraphernalia (pending analysis).

A man aged in his 20s was arrested at the scene by Gardaí and detained at a Tipperary Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996.

He was later charged and will appear before the courts at a later date.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2nd July 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
