Motorists who flout 'no parking' signs on the walls at the entrance to Nenagh's Military Barracks may have to find somewhere else to park their vehicles if a plan to erect bollards gets the go-ahead.

No parking bollards for barracks?

The Department of Defence has applied to Tipperary County Council for permission to erect metal traffic bollards outside the former military barracks at Summerhill, Nenagh.

The department wishes to erect around 40 bollards of approximately one metre in height and set 1.5 metres apart on the kerb side of the public footpath close to the entrance of the historic site.

The department erected ‘no parking’ signs on the walls to the entrance of the barracks a few years ago. However, the signs have been flaunted by motorists.

The space outside the barracks was viewed by many as one of the last free parking areas in the town.

However, part of the wall to the entrance of the barracks where people park collapsed a few years ago, leading to safety concerns.
