Half of 40 seats filled in Tipp

Counting of votes has resumed this morning at the Tipperary Count Centre in the Presentation Secondary School in Thurles. Half of the 40 seats on Tipperary County Council have been filled with the remainder expected to be filled today.

Two of the five seats in the Nenagh LEA have been filled with Independent Joe Hannigan and Lowry Team member, Michael O’Meara, reaching the quota.

Only one seat has to be filled in Newport after Labour’s Fiona Bonfield topped the poll followed by first-time candidate Pamela Quirke O’Meara (Lowry Team) and Fine Gael’s Phyll Bugler.

In the Roscrea LEA, Fianna Fáil’s Michael Smith and Independent Shane Lee were elected while Independent Jim Ryan topped the poll in Thurles followed by Micheál Lowry and Fianna Fáil’s Sean Ryan.

Meanwhile, the counting of votes in the European Election has begun in Cork.
