Speeding concerns in Ballina

A speed survey in Ballina’s Cullenagh estate found that motorists are travelling at an average speed of 41kmph.

Nenagh Municipal District was informed that 11,000 detections were made of vehicles being driven in excess of the speed limit. A response to a notice of motion submitted by Cllr Phyll Bugler stated that speeding is a matter for an Garda Síochána. Additional signage was installed in the estate in recent years.

Cllr Bugler wanted the council to install “‘raised tables’ at junctions along the spine road, as well as additional raised crossings at Lakelands and Lakeview Lower”. She said motorists are “doing a lot more than 41kmph” in the built-up area where children are out playing.

Executive Engineer Paul Keane said the council has met with local residents about the situation. He agreed that more could be done to combat speeding in the area and suggesting meeting with residents again.
