Gold for Mockler in Nationals

Tipperary athletes were among the medal winners at a hugely successful 123.ie National Track & Field Championships at Morton Stadium, Santry last weekend.

Top of the list was Moycarkey/Coolcroo’s Sean Mockler who won gold in the Hammer with a best throw of 66.22. In the same event, Templemore’s John Dwyer finished fourth with clubmate Liam Bergin 14th and Brian Naughton of Nenagh Olympic 12th. In the women’s hammer, Birr AC’s Claire Kennedy finished seventh.

Nenagh Olympics’ Sarah Fajer won bronze in the Shot Put with a best of 13.76m while clubmate Brendan Lynch won bronze in the Triple Jump.

In the Weight for Height competition, Rathcabbin brothers William O’Meara (bronze) and Patrick O’Meara (silver), representing Birr AC, won medals in the under 20 and under 23 categories respectively.

In the Weight for Distance event, Nenagh Olympics’ Laura Frawley won bronze in 7.30m while there were also bronze medals in the Discus for Claire Kennedy (Birr) and John Dwyer (Templemore)

There were other notable performances from Templemore’s Joe Burke in the 200m where he reached the final and came home fourth while Nenagh Olympics’ Sarah Lane qualified for the final of the 800m but was unable to compete while the Nenagh Olympic 4x400m men’s relay team of Paul White, Jack Hickey, Ted Collins, and Daire O’Donnell finished an agonising fourth, less than a second off a medal.

Men’s 200m: Jack Hickey 3rd in heat, Ronan Ryan 7th in heat (Nenagh Olympic)

Women’s 400m: Sophie Walker (Newport AC, 6th in heat behind champion Sophie Becker)

Men’s 800m: Ted Collins 10th in heat 3, Daire O’Donnell 7th in heat 4 (Nenagh Olympic)

Women’s 800m: Aoife Delargy 11th in heat.

Men’s 1500m: Cian Hodgins 8th in heat 1, James Tanner 10th in heat 4 (Nenagh Olympic)

High Jump: Ava Rochford 5th in final with best jump of 1.60m (Nenagh Olympic)

Javelin: Laura Frawley 7th in final (Nenagh Olympic)

Long Jump: Laura Frawley 9th, Joseph Miniter 9th (Nenagh Olympic)

Pole Vault: Aaron Malik 5th (Nenagh Olympic)
