Nenagh Neptune Swim Club

Munster Long Course Championships: At the recent three-day Munster Long Course Championships at the UL Arena, thirteen Nenagh Neptune swimmers achieved many personal best times, qualified for finals and brought home a bunch of medals.

Lauren Duggan achieved personal best (PB) times in each of her five events, her best being a brilliant 7.46 secs in the 200 Breaststroke final. She was placed fourth in the finals of the 100 Butterfly and 200 Individual Medley (IM), fifth in the 200m Breaststroke and sixth in the 100m Breaststroke.

Natasha Filipczyk achieved PBs in 400m, 200m & 100m Freestyle while Ronan Fitzpatrick swam PBs in 100m & 50m Backstroke and had an excellent PB of -1.28 secs for his age group in 200m IM.

Anna Gleeson competed in the 800m Freestyle, was placed seventh and had a scintillating PB of -23.53 secs. She also had PBs of -3.51 secs and -0.26 secs in her 200m & 100m Freestyle preliminary heats.

Her sister, Sarah Gleeson, swam in six events and was placed in the top 7 in 800m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke preliminary heat and final. She won a silver medal in the final of the 1500m Freestyle.

Amy Rose Goldswain had strong swims in her six events and achieved PBs in her 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke preliminary heats.

Mateusz Milasewicz participated in seven events. He achieved a brilliant PB of -23.92 secs in 1500m Freestyle and won a bronze medal in this event. He also had PBs in 100m Freestyle, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal in the final and later on had a PB of -4.83 secs in 400m Freestyle.

Conor Mullen swam a solid PB of -2.78 secs in 200m Backstroke. He qualified for the final of 50m Backstroke and added a new PB of -0.61 secs to his PB of -1.23 secs earlier in the day.

Bartosz Urbanik had very consistent swims in his events of 200m Breaststroke, 200m IM, 100m & 50m Freestyle.

Kseniya Nita had eight swims at the championships, achieving the exact same PB of -2.56 secs in 100m Breaststroke & 200m Backstroke. She won her 200m Butterfly preliminary heat and won a bronze medal in the final.

Aiveen O’Brien concentrated on Freestyle events in these championships and achieved a brilliant PB of -4.54 secs in the 400m Freestyle, placing her in ninth position overall.

Rachel Quigley swam in ten events over the championship weekend and was placed within the top 10 in each event. She had a scintillating PB of -10.29 secs in 100m Freestyle, a very solid -0.98 secs PB in her 200m IM final and added to her -0.51 PB in the preliminary heat of 100m Breaststroke by achieving -0.48 secs PB in the final of the same event where she narrowly missed out on third place. She then went on to win a bronze medal in 800m Freestyle.

Kevin Reddy had six swims and achieved the club’s best PB of the weekend by taking 40.72 secs off his previous time in 1500m Freestyle. He narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in this swim. He put in a similarly impressive performance in his 800m Freestyle, swimming a PB of -36.02 secs and also had further PBs in his 200m Backstroke, 400m Freestyle and 400m IM swims.

Congratulations to all of our swimmers on their solid swims in the championships and thank you to our coaches Uta, Mikey and Thomas for providing guidance and feedback. Thank you also to our team managers and officials for being there for the swimmers during each session. Finally, well done to Patricia Quigley, former chairperson of Nenagh Neptune and current member of the Munster Competitions Committee on her official role of announcer at the championships.

National Age Group Championships: Lauren Duggan and Anna Gleeson will represent Nenagh Neptune Swimming Club at the Swim Ireland Summer National Age Group Championships (50m) taking place this week in UL.

Lauren competes at age 14. She qualified for eight events overall taking place from Thursday to Sunday: 100m Butterfly, Breaststroke & Freestyle; 200m IM, Butterfly, & Breaststroke and 400m Freestyle.

Anna competes at age 13 qualifying for two events on Saturday (400m Freestyle) & Sunday (100m Freestyle).
