The words of appreciation on the plaque presented to Damian.

Working for the betterment of our communities

An appreciation event for Damian

By Brendan Murphy

I have known Damian O Donoghue since our school days – which was not today or yesterday, but many moons ago now unfortunately. Since then, I have worked with Damian on a number of committees, and although we both share different political views, we stand united when it comes to working for the betterment of our community and helping those who need it most.

Damian in recent years took community activism and helping vulnerable people in our community to another level. Damian’s sterling and selfless work in recent years particularly during

Covid-19 lockdown where he delivered meals to the most vulnerable in our society was not only an act of kindness - it highlighted the kind of person that Damian really is, to go above and beyond as a community volunteer to help those during a pandemic, particularly the most vulnerable people in our community.

I contacted a number of Damian’s friends and we all agreed that Damian should receive some recognition for his community work over the last number of years. And what better way to show our appreciation than to present Damian with an engraved award thanking him for all he has done for our community. This, we felt, will act as a reminder to him that his work has not gone unnoticed and he is very much appreciated in our community.

We invited Damian to a ‘meeting’ in Andy's Gastropub on Tuesday evening, July 9, and surprised him with a special presentation as he was surrounded by some of his many friends.

It was a pleasure and an honour to present Damian with a much-deserved award on behalf of the many who appreciate all his hard work.
