Impressive art work on show in North Tipp

Popular open-air exhibition returns

‘Capturing the moment’ is the theme of an Open Air Art Exhibition, which has attracted interest from amateur and professional artists with an international flavour from the mix of participants.

The paintings are exhibited along the Pollagh Walking Trail, which has become a very popular recreational route for hundreds seeking the ultimate tranquility of a rural setting over recent years.

Located close to the village of Birdhill, the exhibition, which opened on Friday last, will run until the end of August, with a selection of 50 paintings spaced along the winding recreational walking trail developed by Birdhill Tidy Town Committee.

Now into its fifth season, it is hosted by Birdhill Art Hub, under the management of Australian-born, Melissa Ryan, in conjunction with Birdhill Tidy Village and the support of Creative Ireland and Tipperary Arts Council, the co-operation of Local land owners and the generosity of its sponsors.

Melissa explained that the chosen theme “refers to a feeling, an emotion, a vibe or an action picture”.

She added: “It is capturing a moment in time, capturing a scene, a person, a thing, or an action through painting encapsulating a moment and preserve it through creative expression.”

Artists were guided to show their ability to capture a moment in time to relive the image and share it with others, having created an everlasting memory that the viewer can revisit multiple times.

Situated at a vantage point on the trail is a tiny art gallery, which has been introduced for the first time.

The ‘Free Little Art Gallery’ contains a number of small pieces of art and visitors over the coming weeks are welcome to add their own piece of art to the collection, or take a piece of art from the collection for free.

For the duration of the exhibition, the Birdhill Art Hub’s social media pages will offer the opportunity to vote for the favourite piece of art on exhibition or for their choice of favourite artist from the work exhibited.
