Mary makes a difference

Mary Lynch of Nenagh was recently presented with an appreciation award by the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).

She was one of 14 recipients of the award at a function at the Salesforce Tower in Dublin last month. Each of them was honoured for their contribution to the IMNDA, the national charity organisation that supports people with motor neurone disease and their families.

"Our appreciation awards are presented to those who go above and beyond in support of the IMNDA," the wording of the award reads. "We could not continue our work without you."

The award is shaped as a jigsaw piece, which symbolises how "we are all part of something that is bigger and better when we work together. Your contribution makes a difference. Thank you."

Mary was presented with the award in recognition of the tens of thousands of euros she has raised for the IMNDA. She did this through three fundraising abseils - two from the top of the Hogan Stand in Croke Park, the third from the Skyview Tower in Smithfield, Dubin - as well as the annual social dance that she has organised in Nenagh over six years. She also provides information and support to local people living with the disease.

Mary confirmed that she will be organising another social dance at the Scouts Hall in Nenagh on November 30.
