Launch of special wall hanging

Age Friendly Roscrea Craft Group

The Age Friendly Roscrea Craft Group meet every Monday afternoon in The Courthouse. It started off as a small group who wanted to practice and share their craft skills. The group has grown with about 25 members at present. It’s a vibrant, friendly and productive team who have learned new skills as well as traditional crafts such as sewing, knitting, crochet. Last year they had a very successful Christmas craft fair in collaboration with St Cronan’s National School. With the support of Tipperary ETB Community Education Facilitator, Eoin Costello, the group decided to take on a project with ETB Tutor Lian Callaghan.

After consultation with the group and lots of ideas being discussed, the group decided to make a wall hanging depicting places in Roscrea which are significant for them. They designed a series of panels celebrating a selection of the many historical and contemporary treasures in and around Roscrea. The medium used was appliqué and mixed media panels which were made by members of Roscrea Age Friendly Craft Group facilitated by ETB tutor Lian Callaghan with the assistance of Breda Reynolds and Magdalena Machowicz-Swiderska.

Most of the materials used were upcycled materials. We had a wide variety of participants including people from Ukraine, Crimea and Zimbabwe. We welcome visitors who would like to call in and view this wonderful piece of craft of which we are very proud. Sincere thanks to all the group who participated and shared their skills to produce it. We had a very enjoyable afternoon for the launch with friends and family members coming along to celebrate the completion of the project. Maith sibh go léir!
