Mawdsley and Ireland for Olympic Final

The Ireland 4x400m Women's Relay team go for Olympic glory tonight in the final race of the athletics portion in Paris.

8.14pm is the start time for the Women's 4x400m relay team with recent European champions Ireland, likely to be made up of Sophie Becker, Rhasidat Adeleke, Phil Healy and Newport's Sharlene Mawdsley on the starting blocks along with World champions the Netherlands, along with Jamaica and Great Britain who claimed the silver and bronze in Budapest last year.

The other finalists are the United States, Canada, Belgium and hosts France.

The Ireland team have the third fastest time this year of all eight finalists so if they can get the baton around safely, they should be in contention for a medal.
