Nenagh, Roscrea and Borrisokane clubs to benefit from €1m funding grants

Funding for the Éire Óg Nenagh GAA Club for a walkway to be developed on its lands on the outskirts of the town is just one of several projects in Nenagh, Roscrea and Borrisokane set to benefit from almost €1 million in Government funding announced for Co Tipperary.

Other projects to gain from this latest pot of State funds include Roscrea Golf Club and Rugby Club, Roscrea Muintir na Tíre and the Scouts Hall in Roscrea.

The allocation from the Community Recognition Fund that will go clubs all over Tipperary has been welcomed by local Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill and Independent Michael Lowry.

Deputy Cahill said the funding, approved last Friday by Ministers Heather Humphreys and Joe O’Brien, will deliver upgrades to key community resources in Tipperary and is designed to bring communities together and make them more vibrant places for people to live, work and visit.

“In Roscrea, we are seeing four separate groups receiving funding, and I would like to thank Cllr Michael Smith for working so closely with me in recent months to deliver locally, “ said the Fianna Fáil TD.

Muintir na Tíre Roscrea has been approved for €55,000, while Roscrea Golf Club is set to receive €50,000. There is a further €69,000 being allocated to Roscrea Rugby Club and an impressive €105,000 going towards the renovations to the Scout Hall, under Roscrea Scouts CLG.”

NENAGH and BORRISOKANE FUNDS

Deputy Cahill went on to highlight benefits to facilities in Borrisokane and Nenagh. “I would also like to congratulate Borrisokane Tennis Club on securing €50,000 for resurfacing and upgrades, and Nenagh Éire Óg GAA on receiving €69,000 to continue the development of the new MacDonagh Park Pathway and lighting works around their new field.”

Deputy Cahill continued to outline the funding secured for the Thurles area, saying: “I am delighted to also welcome €57,000 for Durlas Óg GAA, €62,000 for Thurles Rugby Club, and €60,000 for Thurles Lions Club. In Littleton, the Muintir na Tíre hall is deservingly receiving €50,000.

Deputy Michael Lowry said the investment is just the first of a number of tranches that will be announced under the Community Fund over the coming months.

“This funding is a welcome boost to communities across the county and will have a very positive and far-reaching impact,” he said.

Sinead Carr, the newly appointed Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council, welcomed the funding saying: “Funding such as this is incredibly important for our community groups and sports clubs in Tipperary. It enables them to  continue providing high quality facilities and services that are the vital for communities to thrive.”
