FBD Insurance County Championships

Round 2 of the County Football Championships took place last weekend with games taking place at Senior, Intermediate and Premier Junior levels.

See pages 60 & 61 for the senior matches and review.

In the Intermediate grade, Holycross was the venue for the meeting of Galtee Rovers and Moyne-Templetuohy on Friday. Many had hoped that this would have been a very close battle, however this did not materialise as the men from the West proved to be far superior, winning 2-15 to 0-10.

At the same time there was a much closer game taking place in Sean Treacy Park where Golden Kilfeacle had just the minimum to spare as they defeated Fethard 0-15 to 0-14. In Golden, Rockwell Rovers were too strong for Thurles Sarsfields as they had nine points to spare, 2-12 to 0-9.

On Sunday in Cashel, West Tipperary opponents Eire Óg Annacarty and Aherlow met and again in what was a close fought game, Aherlow just about got out the gap with full points as they won 1-7 to 1-6.

In the Premier Junior championship, there were wins for Fr Sheehy’s over Sean Treacys, Cashel King Cormacs over Loughmore/Castleiney, while Moyle Rovers defeated Clonmel Óg.

Next weekend sees a return to the hurling action with round 3 games taking place in the Senior, Premier Intermediate & Intermediate hurling championships. With so much as stake in almost every game taking place there is sure to be some fantastic action right across the weekend.

Tickets are available to purchase on the ticket section of the Tipperary GAA website. Alternatively, Tap & Go will be available at each venue over the weekend.

Presentation to the Dillon Quirke Foundation

A poem written by Martin Quinn, which was printed and sold to supporters, has raised a considerable amount of money for the Dillon Quirke Foundation.

The poem titled 'A Warrior through all his short years' was written in tribute to Dillon, who passed away tragically on August 5th, 2022.

Martin has a long history of involvement in GAA, both at club level as a former officer of the Galtee Rovers/St. Pecaun's GAA Club, and at divisional and county level as a former GAA Referee and a former Chair of West Tipperary Bord na nÓg.

In writing the poem, Martin wanted to remember Dillon's personal and sporting attributes and to signify his qualities both on the field and off. The poem was sold widely with all proceeds going to the Dillon Quirke Foundation. Through his involvement also with a local group that was disbanding, Martin asked if the remaining funds could be donated to the Foundation.

As a result, over €1,800 is to be donated to the Dillon Quirke Foundation, and the presentation of the cheque will be made to Dillon's father, Dan, on Thursday, August 29th at 7.00pm, at the Porter House, Tipperary Town. Current and former players will be in attendance, along with representatives of the Munster & All-Ireland Minor teams and the winning Cups. All are welcome to attend the presentation and to hear further about the work of the Dillon Quirke Foundation. Go to: https://www.dillonquirkefoundation.com/
