Members of Nenagh Youth Theatre are looking to new horizons as they plan courses to enhance their stage skills as well as trying to attract new members.

Nenagh Youth Theatre seeks new members

New programmes in September

Nenagh Youth Theatre has been the resident youth theatre at Nenagh Arts Centre since 2009. Our focus is on creating a fun and innovative approach to theatre, challenging attitudes across the arts by offering weekly professionally led theatre workshops and high-quality arts experiences for young people. This year Nenagh Youth Theatre is running two programmes that will take place every Saturday from September 14 for 10 weeks: NYT Players (10am-12 noon) and NYT Explorers (12 noon-2pm).

NYT Players: This programme is for new and continuing members interested in developing new skills in theatre making and performance. NYT Players will develop skills in acting, improvisation, creative writing and directing. They will participate in the Nenagh Youth Drama Festival, an intimate showing of work for family and friends.

NYT Explorers: This programme is for continuing members that are interested in learning the process of exploring a play and staging a production. NYT Explorers will develop skills in acting, production design and physical theatre. They will stage a full play at the end of the second term, with the theme of this play falling into the area of mystery. This programme is not open to new members.

A spokesperson for Nenagh Youth Theatre said: “This is about challenging yourself, trying something new, and having fun in the process. It is so much fun coming together every week to look at a different area of theatre. The way we approach theatre in Nenagh YT is very practical, we do everything through games, trying things, making mistakes, and learning from the process.’ Calvin, our Youth Theatre leader shared. ‘This year we want to continue doing all of this, but to grow and have a wide range of new opportunities and challenges for the members of Nenagh Youth Theatre, I can’t wait to see what they do.”

Nenagh Youth Theatre is open to new members aged 12-17 who are looking for a creative outlet to express themselves, gain an understanding of theatre as an art form while making memories and having lots of fun.
