Newport’s Wright competes on Olympic Marathon course

Sharlene Mawdsley wasn’t the only athlete from Newport to compete in Paris as local ultra-runner Paula Wright took part in the Paris Olympics Mass Participation Marathon

In between the Olympics men’s and woman's marathons on 10th & 11th August last, the official Olympic marathon course was open to members of the public to race, and after gaining a place in the race, Paula has been training the last six months for this event. She incorporated pacing many marathons around Ireland as part of her preparation.

She said that the experience was, a night to remember as the crowds and live music gave the event a real buzz. For a woman that lives for running, it was one of the best runs of her life.

Paula is a multi-Irish champion in the Ultra 24 hour discipline and has competed internationally for her home nation of Finland.
