Cup winners Roscrea: Presentation to captain Ben Monaghan of the Roscrea winning team by Conor Phelan to captain Amy and Paul Phelan.

A fitting tribute for Fiona

Roscrea GAA hosts hurling blitz in her memory

Amy, Conor and the extended Phelan and O’Connor family would like to say how thankful and humbled they were to be in St Cronan’s Park for the Roscrea GAA U10 hurling blitz in memory of the late Fiona Phelan.

Paul Phelan added: “What a fantastic and fitting tribute to Fiona. We are grateful to all the teams that visited from near and far, and what fantastic hurlers we had on display. Hurling is in a great place when you look and see the skills on show today.

“To our own club, words are not enough to say how much we appreciate everything that was done in the last few weeks and today to make it such a success. I won’t mention any names in particular in case I leave out someone, but from the wonderful food to the hurling and everything in between, all we can say is thank you.

“Fiona was a GAA woman to the back bone, she loved her beloved Tipperary, but Roscrea came first every time. Even though she travelled all over the county and country to support both, she was most happy in our own field watching Roscrea play any grade from U5s to senior, boys or girls, it didn’t matter. As long as they had red and white on she was shouting them on, and she could shout!

“Once again, many thanks to all who played a part in this great day.”
