New Challenge for Nicole Drought as she tackles "Knock Me Down Adventure Race"

Nicole Drought has been busy in 2024. As well as her daily job as Finance Manager at Mondello Park, the Roscrea lady has won her second Open Clubman Irish Rallycross Championship and is currently leading the UK based MSVR Trackday Championship with three rounds left to run.

Nicole celebrates with her Sport Ireland team mates, having successfully completed the Mondello 24 Race earlier this year.

This Saturday though, she takes on a completely new challenge as she will take on the Knock Me Down Adventure Race, a running, kayaking and cycling event around the Knockmealdown Mountains in South Tipperary and West Waterford!

The event is run by the volunteers of the Knockmealdown Active group, which seeks to promote activity all along the Knockmealdown Mountains in South Tipperary and West Waterford. It includes many volunteers from the communities of Newcastle, Clogheen and Mount Melleray, without whom it would be impossible to run the event.

Funds raised from the Adventure Race and the group’s other major activity, St. Declan’s Way, go to raising the profile of the Knockmealdown Mountain region as a whole. It seeks to improve infrastructure and find new ways to utilise the very special amenities with which this wonderful natural resource provides us.

Even though Nicole is best known for her successes behind the wheel, she is non stranger to physical training, something she says is crucial to help her stay composed and competitive when racing. Back in June, Nicole was invited by Sport Ireland to join their team for the Mondello 24, a 24 hour bicycle race at the Kildare venue. She happily accepted and earlier this month, once again joined her friends at Sport Ireland for their #HerOutdoors event at The Avon in Wicklow. This event, and others during Her Outdoors week, aimed to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for females to get involved in outdoor physical activity.

Having completed the race on Saturday, Nicole will be off to Dublin on Sunday morning to the Dundrum Supercar Weekend. Over 100 supercars will be on display at this hugely popular event, which raises funds for BUMBLEance — The World's First Interactive Ambulance Service Designed for Children. Nicole is an ambassador for the event and she will be interviewed on stage in the F1 Lounge at 1pm on Sunday. The event is in the Red Carpark of the Dundrum Town Centre and admission is free.

Nicole leads the MSVR Trackday Championship and travels to Cadwell Park on September 7th to defend her lead. After that, she will take on the final two rounds in Navarra in Spain and Brands Hatch in Kent.
