Members at the summit of Scafell Pike, England.

Scaling the heights

Well done to everyone who has supported us and joined us on our many walks and trips away over the last few months, your support is greatly appreciated. We are more than half way through 2024 and our club have a very busy few months ahead with all the Aran Islands walked to date and some more islands to complete. Last weekend, 14 hardy hikers took on Scafell Pike in the UK, at a height of 978m. Taking a bus from Roscrea, the ferry to Holyhead and onward to our accommodation at Eskdale in Cumbria where we had a 12k low level walk around the Lake District before climbing Scafell Pike on Sunday. The weather was kind to the walkers and hiked the 10km to the summit and back down in under five hours. A fantas-tic weekend overall. Our next weekend away is to Achill Island in September. Our walk last Thursday was postponed due to a poor weather forecast. Our Thursday night walk this week, August 29, is a walk that is always well attended, The Silver River Loop at Cadamstown. Distance: 6.5k, time: 1.5 hours, grade: moderate/easy. Meeting at the Silver River Trail Head Cadamstown at 7.30pm. A fine river walk and well worth the effort.
